Drôme, Loiret, Corrèze, Vendée… The cuts in sexual health are worrying

Cuts to sexual health and emotional life have been increasing here and there in recent months, raising concerns among professionals in the sector. While the situations are disparate, the various decision-making executives (departments, regions, prefectures) cite the context of the budgetary effort requested by the government from local authorities – although this has been revised downwards, with a new mechanism allowing some to be exempt from deductions.

Sarah Durocher, president of the Family Planning Association, is concerned that the state of public finances could be used as a pretext for political choices: "We are on alert; the fact that there are cuts in several local authorities and reductions in subsidies to Family Planning is not insignificant."

The case of Drôme, with a majority of Republicans (LR), is emblematic. This department voted to close seven sexual health centers (CSS) managed by the department, in a territory that has eighteen in total, and to cut by 20% the budgets allocated to the other eleven centers, managed indirectly either by a hospital or by the Family Planning Association.
