As Eid Al-Adha approaches, scheduled to begin around June 6, the Rhône prefecture is reminding residents of the regulatory provisions introduced by decree since May 15. As a reminder, these measures are taken every year to ensure the religious festival can take place under the best possible health conditions.
From May 15 to June 22, "the transport and delivery of cattle, sheep and goats are prohibited outside of approved slaughterhouses and breeding sites regularly declared to the departmental breeding establishment (EDE) ", "the donation or sale of animals of these species to persons other than breeding professionals is also prohibited ." The decree recalls that the possession of these live animals by persons not declared as breeders to the EDE is strictly prohibited.
Individuals who fail to comply with these rules are liable to a fine of €750. Slaughter outside an approved slaughterhouse is punishable by six months' imprisonment and a fine of €15,000.
This year, the prefecture is calling for special health vigilance, particularly due to the presence of serious and highly contagious animal diseases (foot-and-mouth disease, peste des petits ruminants, and African swine fever) in European, Turkish, and African territories.
In particular, it is recalled that: "The supply of animals with known health status and with an import health certificate and the cleaning and disinfection of transport vehicles and equipment must be scrupulously respected", and that "any introduction of animals originating from countries of the European Union and outside the European Union in private vehicles and outside official points of introduction (airports and ports) is prohibited."
