2026 Budget: 5 billion euros in savings for health, and significant measures

It was known that the health sector would be called upon to contribute to the budgetary savings promised for 2026. For weeks, various suggestions had been circulating, from the French health insurance system to the French employers' association Medef (Medef). The suspense ended on Tuesday, July 15: the government is aiming for €5 billion in savings on social spending, out of the €43.8 billion sought in the next budget , announced Prime Minister François Bayrou, unveiling his guidelines for restoring public finances.
Health spending "will increase by 10 billion euros next year. This is not sustainable. I propose that we make the effort to limit this increase by half," the head of government indicated. The sum for this sector is high, even though it corresponds to the objective already mentioned during the presentation of the previous budget .
The particularly sensitive modalities for achieving this will not fail to provoke a reaction, as they directly affect patients. This is the case with the lever of " medical deductibles " , these sums remaining their responsibility when they buy medication: François Bayrou announced the doubling - from 50 to 100 euros per year and per insured - of the annual ceiling of deductibles and fixed contributions (on consultations with the doctor, radiology examinations, biological analyses, etc.). This should correspond to "8 euros maximum per month" , for each, he specified.
