Whooping cough in Mexico: List of states with the most reported cases

Whooping cough, a highly contagious respiratory disease, It is caused by the bacteria Bordetella pertussis. It is characterized by severe, uncontrollable coughing attacks , which can make breathing difficult and even lead to vomiting.

This disease affects people of all ages; however, it is more aggressive in infants and children who have not completed their vaccination schedule.

In Mexico, The number of cases of this disease has increased to 1,110, According to the latest report, dated June 20, 2025, from the General Directorate of Epidemiology of the Ministry of Health.

Likewise, the number of deaths from whooping cough remains at 56.

Which states have the most reported cases?

According to the Informative Bulletin 11 of the Epidemiological Situation of Vaccine-Preventable Diseases in Mexico , These are the cases of whooping cough in each state of the Republic:

• Aguascalientes: 99 cases
• Baja California: 18 cases
• Baja California Sur: 6 cases
• Campeche: 18 cases
• Coahuila: 66 cases
• Colima: 2 cases
• Chiapas: 42 cases
• Chihuahua: 117 cases
• Mexico City: 120 cases
• Durango: 8 cases
• Guanajuato: 46 cases
• Guerrero: 23 cases
• Hidalgo: 36 cases
• Jalisco: 52 cases
