What's worse for your health, smoking or vaping?

When we talk about smoking or vaping, we know for sure that both are harmful to our health, and both harm our bodies in different ways. However, is one more harmful than the other? Here's what we'll tell you.

Vapers , e - cigarettes, and hybrid cigarettes are more harmful than traditional cigarettes, and their effects can manifest immediately and severely, warned Guadalupe Ponciano Rodríguez, director of the Tobacco Research and Prevention Program at the UNAM School of Medicine.

These devices, popular especially among teenagers and young adults, operate using batteries or an electrical connection to heat a liquid solution that is then inhaled. However, what appears to be harmless vapor is actually a dangerous chemical mixture that includes substances such as propylene glycol, ethylene glycol, and glycerin. They are technically known as Electronic Nicotine Delivery Systems (ENDS), and their use represents a greater risk than many users imagine.

Since their inception, vapes have been touted as a healthier alternative to traditional cigarettes, and even as an effective tool for quitting smoking, although there is no solid scientific evidence to support these claims.

Guadalupe Ponciano Rodríguez explained that: “People are lulled into a false sense of security, but in reality, these devices can be more dangerous than regular cigarettes,” she noted.

He also warned that one of the most alarming aspects is the excessive amount of nicotine they contain. While a conventional cigarette provides about one milligram, the capsules or pods in some vapes can contain up to 60 milligrams, which is equivalent to smoking 60 cigarettes in one go.

This high dose can seriously affect the cardiovascular system, as nicotine acts directly on the heart muscle and blood vessels, which can worsen conditions such as atherosclerosis.
