We already know who is in charge and who is in charge at the Palace.

We already know who is in charge and who is in charge at the Palace.

On January 28, 2020 - 8 days after the Covid-19 pandemic officially began - Dr. Hugo López-Gatell, Undersecretary of Health, said: “The new coronavirus behaves like a MILD AGGRESSIVE virus compared to the seasonal flu... If today you are left with the feeling that we say "nothing is happening", IT IS BECAUSE THE EVIDENCE SHOWS IT." Three years and four months later - May 19, 2023 - when the World Health Organization (WHO) officially declared the end of the health tragedy, 830,243 people had died in Mexico as a result of the virus. In addition, our country had become the fourth in the world with the most deaths, the second in lethality due to infections, and one of the first in medical personnel who died as a result of the infection.

Today, Dr. López-Gatell - always sheltered, protected, and defended by López Obrador -, who downplayed the danger of the pandemic and who entered into controversy with Mexican scientists and researchers from the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) over the use of face masks, saying "It is important not to overemphasize, not to exaggerate the concern," who was captured at the height of the pandemic enjoying himself on a beach in Oaxaca, earning criticism from many sectors of society for the lightness with which he handled the pandemic and the lethal consequences it had, has been appointed by President Claudia Sheinbaum as Mexico's representative to the World Health Organization.

Two questions arise regarding López-Gatell's appointment: first, his poor performance at the helm of the undersecretary's office and the tragic consequences of his medical "recommendations" for addressing the pandemic; and second, the differences between him and then-Chief Executive Officer Claudia Sheinbaum. The latter was "the talk of the day" at the time, as López-Gatell angrily argued that, in response to the current president's need to activate the red light in the capital, he refused to comply with this measure in a meeting with then-President López Obrador. And these apparently weren't the only differences that arose between the Chief Executive Officer and the Undersecretary of Health, according to people who witnessed the disagreements.

So the question is very simple: Why is someone who failed in his duties, even causing the deaths of thousands with his poor decisions and having major differences of opinion with the president, rewarded by being sent to Geneva, Switzerland? This confirms that in the National Palace, one person is in charge and another is in charge, even if they are far away.
