Luis Gil, nutritionist: "Male menopause exists: it's called andropause and begins with a drop in testosterone."

Menopause in men, andropause , why is no one talking about this?” This is the question nutritionist Luis Gil begins a video on social media with. “You're over 40 , and no matter how much you hit the gym , you're not getting the results you wanted, and you're still accumulating fat and not gaining muscle . This may not be just your fault; it could be a hormonal issue,” the expert comments.

Gil discusses some of the symptoms that arise after the age of 40: “ Starting at 40, testosterone plummets . Yes, women have testosterone too. This affects energy, fat burning, and muscle mass.”

Given this, the nutritionist explains what you can do to avoid these problems. "First, strength train because cardio alone won't be enough, and muscle acts as another endocrine organ. Remember to eat quality protein at every meal, no junk food. Reduce your intake of alcohol and sugary and ultra-processed drinks . And finally, get a blood test to see how your hormones are doing and your fasting cortisol, testosterone, and insulin levels," explains Luis Gil.

Finally, the nutritionist assures that with these recommendations, the body will notice the changes: "When you regulate all of this, your body responds again, you feel energetic again, you regain muscle, and also, that belly you have starts to disappear without much effort."
